Even after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, New Orleans remains a hot spot for travel. When it comes to locating budget lodging, most often the city hostels host the best prices. Although, when looking for a more romantic experience, a b&b in New Orleans can often be a great option.
With several bed and breakfast establishments located in or near the city, there is no shortage from which to choose. Whether looking for a themed stay, or one that is more traditional, the crescent city has it all. In addition, there are several Air B&B operated by homeowners in the area.
Due to the historic ambiance and romantic flair, New Orleans, Louisiana is still one of the most popular travel destinations. The city also attracts honeymooners or people just looking for a romantic get-away. As a result, many couples spend anniversaries, honeymoons and other special occasions visiting the area.
Newlyweds who prefer more privacy may want to consider an Air B&B or boutique hotel in the city. With so many attractions from horse and carriage rides to haunted tours, it is often best to be within an easy driving distance or close to public transportation. For those desiring to experience Bourbon Street in all it’s glory, a short bus, walk or cab ride is often the way to go. Unlike New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles, there are often a number of cabs available by appointment or flagging.
As with all travel, there are ways to cut cost. One of which is by staying in a neighboring town and driving in and out of the city. Planning ahead can often help with budget and availability as lodging can also sell out well in advance of the fest. For, if one decides to stay outside the city, then has to pay high dollar parking rates, driving in and out can often be more trouble than it’s worth.
Other attractions in the area include the historic Tippitina’s nightclub along with several art museums. There are also several cafes, diners and restaurants, most of which are lesser expensive than those found in the French Quarter or Bourbon Street. Whereas, Magazine Street, a short walk away host a number of historic cafes and vintage shops.
Jazz Fest as it’s known by regulars is a two week festival which occurs each year on the last weekend of April and first weekend of May. While sanctioned performances only occur on weekends, there are now several indie festivals which occur on the days between. There are also several concerts which occur during this period with most requiring a special ticket.
Regardless of lodging type, there are always people who can help plan a day or night on the town. At most bed and breakfasts, motels and hotels, a concierge or staff can assist in making dinner and show reservations, getting tickets to sold out concerts or simply answering questions. When it comes to hostels, many offer events and tours focused on clubs, restaurants and other attractions.
